Sobrevoar Hang gliding School follows the Federação Portugesa de Voo Livre's standards for the training of Hang gliding pilots. The flight license is granted on approval of Level III's exam. (See details in the Contrato de Aprendizagem further on).
The first step for a student at Sobrevar School is to take a flight baptism, considered as an introduction to free flight. The cost of it will be deduced from the course's total price in case the student adapts well and wishes to proceed.
Level I:
- Introduction to fight with tandem flights
- Ground Maneuvers
- Approximation and turns
- Take-off
- Landing
This is the most important level in a pilot's training, where the basic concepts of flight and safety are introduced.
Foreseen duration: 8 practice days
Price for this level: 650€
Level II:
- Solo flight
- Approximation and turns
- Take-off and landing on wheels
- Take-off and landing on wheels
In this Level, the student already flies solo, but only under supervision and presence of the instructor.

Level III:
- Hill flight
- Slope take-off
- Dynamic soaring
In this level, the student learns to take-off from hills and to use dynamic lift, still exclusively under the instructor's supervision and presence. At the end of this level the student is examined by the Federação Portuguesa de Asa Delta to obtain his flight license.

Price for this level: 400€
Next training levels - IV and V - can be trained equally with tow or hill flying and are designated to progress towards higher performance flights and competition.
Level IV:
- Thermal flying.
In this level the pilot is trained to use thermals and for higher altitude and longer flights.
There is no pre-established duration for this level once it requires accumulating the following experience:
- Mastering duration flight
- At least 20 hours accumulated flight time.
- At least 2 hours accumulated flight time in dynamic lift
- At least one hour accumulated flight time in thermal flight with flights longer than 15 minutes each

Level V:
- Distance flight
Distance flying is the ultimate goal of free flight and thus requires great mastering of pilot skills and additional meteorological and navigation knowledge. Its training is done by coaching in the airfield and on flight trips, besides theoretical teaching. This training is tailored to the individual's capabilities and its value will be adjusted to each individual.
